We describe every car as carefully as we can, and we would rather you knew the limits of those descriptions before you buy than afterwards. This page explains what the listings on this site are, and what they are not.

Listings and photographs

The photographs on a listing are of the actual car we are selling, taken by us, not stock images or pictures borrowed from somewhere else. Even so, no photograph is the car. Screens render colour differently, lighting changes what a panel looks like, and a lens flattens the shape of a body line. Ask for more photographs of any area you care about, and we will take them and send them to you.

Condition descriptions

What we write about condition is our honest opinion of the car on the day we wrote it, from the inspection we carried out ourselves. It is not a warranty, a guarantee, or a professional engineer's report. A classic car is a used machine of considerable age, and things do wear out and stop working between one week and the next.

If a car has rust, previous accident damage, a replaced panel or a non-original part, we say so in the listing and photograph the area. If you find something in the listing unclear, ask before you commit.

Inspect it yourself

An inspection by your own specialist is welcome on every car we sell, and it is the best protection you have. Send your inspector, or ask us for a local one, and we will make the car available on a lift and stay out of the way. Nothing on this website is a substitute for a pair of eyes under the car.

Mileage on classic cars

Mileage is stated as it appears on the odometer. On a car built in the 1960s or 1970s, the odometer has often rolled over, been replaced, or been rebuilt along with the rest of the car, and the true mileage is frequently unknown. Where the documentation supports a mileage figure we say so in the listing; where it does not, we do not claim one.

VIN, trim and documentation

VIN, engine, trim and option details are taken from the car itself and from the documents that came with it. We tell you what we can see and what the paperwork says. We do not claim that a car is numbers-matching or original unless the evidence in front of us supports it, and where we are unsure we say we are unsure.

This site may link to other websites — a lender, a transport company, a parts supplier, an article. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for what they say, what they do with your information, or whether they are accurate. A link is not an endorsement.
